The Wings of Freedom Foundation is a nonprofit traveling museum dedicated to preserving the history of American military aviation, and honoring the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Based in Morganton, Georgia, the Foundation operates throughout the Tri-State area to ensure the sacrifices of our military veterans are not forgotten.
The Wings of Freedom Foundation's mission is to HONOR our veterans, EDUCATE the public about their sacrifices, and INSPIRE the next generation of pilots, mechanics, and aerospace engineers. The Foundation accomplishes its mission by providing hands-on public displays of military aviation and space flight artifacts to HONOR, EDUCATE, and INSPIRE.
Since World War II, more than 81,000 American service members remain Missing In Action across the world. The Wings of Freedom Foundation is committed to ensuring that our missing service members are not forgotten. Our traveling museum display features a special dog tag display in memory of the 28 service members from Georgia who are still Missing In Action from the Vietnam War. Each dog tag is stamped with the service member's name, hometown, and the date they went missing, to keep their memory alive and ensure their sacrifices are not forgotten.
The Wings of Freedom Foundation is proud to clean the grave markers of our fallen service members at no cost to their families. Our cleaning methods are in strict accordance with the National Cemetery Administration guidelines, and we use the same cleaning solution that is used to clean historic sites around the world, including the White House. If you know of a grave marker in need of cleaning, please contact us. We are honored to provide this service.
From Purple Hearts and burial flags found at estate sales to World War II uniforms found in a storage building, the Wings of Freedom Foundation is committed to saving our nation's military history and preserving it for future generations. If you know of any historic military, aviation, or NASA artifacts in need of a new home, please contact us.
To inspire the next generation of pilots, mechanics, and aerospace engineers, the Wings of Freedom Foundation maintains a growing collection of historic aviation and space flight artifacts. Ranging from the dawn of aviation to SpaceX's Starship, the Foundation's Air & Space collection includes artifacts that flew in space aboard the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station that are used to inspire STEM students to explore the exciting field of aerospace.
The Bell OH-58 Kiowa helicopter was used by the U.S. Army for observation, scout, utility, and training missions from 1969-2020. The Foundation's OH-58 was built in 1973 and served with the U.S. Army until 2010.
The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was an observation and attack aircraft used by the U.S. Army from 1960-1996. The Foundation's OV-1 was built in 1964 and flew 21 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
The Wings of Freedom Foundation is actively seeking donations of historic military, aviation, and NASA space flight artifacts for our educational displays, as well as airplane and helicopter projects. We are also looking for OH-58, OV-1, and UH-1 Huey parts for our restoration projects. Please contact us if you can help!
